I have talked a lot about how any site with images and or videos gets flooded with the same content over and over again. Worst of all being those who spam illegal material either in protest of being banned or to make sites get censored. It doesn't take much effort beyond mabye editing the material being sent once in a while to bypass filters for these type of things.
I really didn't get the apeall of it, I mean sure I understand people who use the same reaction images and gifs once in awhile, but to burn so much free time on stuff nobody else seems to like. That really confused me for a bit. Till I realised something, is not that they are trying to share what they love is more so that the overblown reactions to it are great. Writting long threads of text about stuff that doesn't matter is easy, but can get time consuming. Posting a few images you like here and there is way faster and requries way less interaction.
I tend to just turn off or ignore images mostly now, since I just read and write to people for fun online. Is just tiresome having half of the forum full of people taking the most crystal clear bait, or being very anal on what people can share (mostly based off what they like instead of any rule breaking or shocking content). I don't respond to any of it, I don't even discuss this on the sites I frequent were this take place. I just accept it as what it is, and hope people who get so worked up over it just learn to ignore it.

Basically this. On my old Reddit account I would sometimes post long text posts but I stopped doing that because I barely got any interaction as opposed to those that simply posted memes. It was really demoralizing to spend an hour or two on a text post when somebody who spent a few minutes in a text editor got way more attention than me. It must be really soul crushing for those who spend weeks or months working on a project that ends up receiving no attention.
Well for one, people are lazy and go all like "too long didn't read" and then is just the fact people can't agree on anything these days. If they see a meme they don't like, they just downvote it or get it banned. Opinons are harder to filter, so they just avoid long rants like the plague. I feel as if the more I use MainChan the less traction I get on average, but it least I get to post what I love on here. I tried to post something on reddit, a funny video of somebody throwing a firecracker in a bathtub, and it got downvoted into oblivion. I don't know, it feels like the bigger the sites are, the worse the userbase is.
I guess that's caused by a fact that once a community reaches a certain size some sort of "unwritten" rules become the norm dictating it's discussion. Just like how on 4chan posting anything that might be considered "normie" will get you called a faggot and a tranny and posting anything remotely religious on Reddit will get you bombarded by atheists.
You know of the Barneyfag? There were a lot of those where ever I used to post, especially when people were just posting what they love. Monster Girl Threads don't like any media that isn't made in Japan, and that isn't from a written work. So I started experincing that "missed cheese" feeling, when I notice they didn't dog on a post with a image from media they don't like (Gacha games, Western media, media with monster boys and girls). Is a personal example of this.
