I've only ever used MySQL and honestly I don't know in what circumstances I should use something else. At least for the projects I've made, I've never run into a problem where I needed to switch databases.
I spent a couple of hours trying to find a reason to use MongoDB over SQL databases, didn't find anything useful other than MongoDB Is Web Scale
it just works
So does any other database
