How does a country develop their cuisine to atrocities, like England or East Europe

I blame the N*rmans in the case of England. English people settled outside of England have made plenty of nice food.

what atrocities are we talking about? most eastern euro food is just simple/bland and dense in calories since most of the people pre soviet union were farmers and needed their calories for the day. for me personally the most disgusting shit is probably aspic but then thats a dish that can be found all over the world
