FFX was insane for it's time. I lived close to a brick and mortar video rental store and they had like 30 copies of it that were always rented out.

It also failed horribly, it's popular with a niche culture but it's not a genre defining masterpiece like FFX, 7, 6, etc.

Final fantasy died with squaresoft, everything after X has been shit, including movies, books and all the garbage they've made to try and milk this franchise off nostalfags
And yet people keep pretending this is a prestige franchise only to be let down time and time again. The weird thing is both Square-Enix and Final Fantasy fans seem to be under this same delusion. Worse than the Sonic cycle.

SE keeps pretending this is their lead RPG, but FF is usually considered boomercore nowadays
every real FF fan (as in people who started the series with IV, VI or VII and not retarded babies whose first FF was XIII) know that the series is long dead and buried trash and has been for a very long time XII, XIII, XV, XVI, Demake and Stillbirth all absolute disappointments.
XI is an actual good MMO that just happens to be called "final fantasy"
FFXIV is literally just a final fantasy game with online elements
