Alternative search engines and directories
It tries to solve the problem of finding old or niche websites in an age where the front page of Google is filled with commercial crap. Next to the search bar, there's a menu that allows you to remove the first 100, 1k, 10k, 100k, or million sites. I've recently used it to find an old blog article that I hadn't saved in the bookmarks.
A humble search engine that only indexes sites from the old web. You can submit your own favorite pages.
Same results as Google, but more respectful of your privacy.
A DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content. You probably won't find exactly what you're looking for, but you might stumble upon something interesting.
The developer behind this site claims to have a better algorithm than Google. And with a name like that, I just had to include it.
A privacy-focused engine made in Germany.
A site for nostalgics of the web 1.0 portals. Among other things, it allows you to enter a url and view the website as it would appear in a certain year, as well as search through http://frogfind.com, which turns websites into simple html pages (useful if you're browsing from an old computer).

Test to see how the new emotes look like...
Interesting, wiby seems really cool.
I recently got in contact with people that want to make a decentralized search engine, the team seems to be very experienced so hopefully one day I add them to the list.
I don't know if it's the same project you're talking about, but https://yacy.net/ is a decentralized search engine that's been around for a while.
Nope, it's another team, but I was looking for this one as well.
why no duckduckgo?
I figured everyone already knows about it, also they recently made some changes to their algorithms in order to "fight disinformation", basically they only show you the mainstream sites that go along with the current agenda. And I think that goes against what the web should be.
Fuck duckduckgo. Their "morals" over natural search selection
What's your favorite alternative to DDG?
For general search, Startpage. But I tend to use different search engines depending on what I'm looking for. For example, one that I forgot to include in the list is https://yandex.com, the Russian version of Google. It's decent overall, but where it really shines is in its reverse image search functionality, which is far above that of its competitors. It can find the source of almost any image, and what's more, it shows you visually similar pictures.
Also worth mentioning is https://searx.thegpm.org/, "a metasearch engine, aggregating the results of other search engines while not storing information about its users."
search.brave.com or "Brave Search", brave doesn't use bing or googles index, so its not at the whim of big tech companies
