Just found out about this travesty even though it was announced a while ago. The studio behind, "The Witcher" and "Shadow & Bone," two truly awful and brutally unfaithful Netflix adaptations now hold TV development rights on White Wolf's World of Darkness.

Vampire, Wraith, Werewolf, Hunter, Demon, Mage, and all the rest with decades of sprawling, amazingly deep and intertwined lore (examples: 1, 2, 3) that's been developed is now under the control of people who can't manage to follow the lore of a couple of books and a video game correctly.

It cannot be understated how bad this is. Covid? Childs play. 9-11? Cookies and cake. THIS? This is bad.

I can only hope this deal dies during the writer/actor strikes if it hasn't already. I would love a faithful, dark and complex adaptation of Vampire: The Masquerade or Mage: The Ascension. Something like a movie written by like Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon and directed by David Fincher. But this? The people behind the Witcher? People who are already talking about how diverse and inclusive whatever they make will be before they've even thought of the first setting, script, or theme? They're a shitshow factory these producers. Just like Secret Hideout an Bad Robot.

These shitty production companies keep ruining every IP they touch but keep getting tossed new ones to ruin just because their names were attached to sci-fi and fantasy made before regardless of how bad they fucked up those things. Even though this is old news by now I just heard about so I'm pissed AF.

I can't see any one doing WOD well. It's too big and multifaceted.

I can see it. There are a lot of writers and directors who care about faithful adaptations, lore and canon. Studios just aren't hiring them. They hire production studios with a history of poisoning franchises or hire people with the right connections but no experience because they're cheap, easy puppets. Both "shit-in = shit-out" scenarios have happened so often now it seems like they do it on purpose.
