Parabolic movement, similarity with the uses that ancient civilizations gave it

It is about parabolic motion; I have seen resources like the Greek civilizations used it and the Chinese civilizations too, but I can't find what they used it for.
I was thinking about the trajectory of some siege weapons like the catapult and catapult.

The trajectory of a projectile does not follow a perfect parablolic path due to air resistance and the fact that gravitational force changes with height, although the latter is insignificant enough.
