There is, after all, no great need to discuss every little thing beneath the sun, nor to set the world upon the table and examine it as though it were some troublesome machine. Now and then, one may simply let matters be, take the afternoon as it comes, and sit quite happily with a cup of tea cooling beside the window. The birds need not explain their singing, nor the clouds their slow drifting across the pale sky; they merely go on, and we may do the same. It is a gentle blessing, really, to forget one’s arguments for a while and enjoy the dear, passing moment with a light heart and an untroubled mind.
