Soul mates is just a fanciful term for the fact that once in a very long while two people will find themselves so compatible it seems like magic. That's just something that's statistically bound to happen in a world with billions of people.
My soul mate would need to check so many abnormal boxes I'd guess they have a less than 1% chance chance of existing. That's still a pool of 70 million people in a world with 7.8 billion people so maybe if I travel a whole lot and date thousands and thousands of women there's a shot.
