No personal paranormal experiences, but im fascinated by others' stories. when i was younger i found myself watching videos of people exploring haunted places, like when a music box starts on its own, intrigued me. i was talking about it with my mom, and since i grew up in a christian household, she mentioned their beliefs, suggesting "ghosts" could be deceiving demons mimicking the departed. i thought this was really interesting cause it kinda drew a picture on how our beliefs shape our take on the paranormal.

When I was 13 years old I bought the book Mastering Witchcraft: A Practical Guide for Witches, Warlocks, and Covens. The book is famously controversial in witchcraft circles for it's initiation ritual which involves reciting the Lord's Prayer backwards on three consecutives nights, outdoors, by candle light past midnight.

I set out to complete this ritual. Each night I'd sneak out behind the shed in my backyard so no one would see me, light the candle and recite the words. The first night, nothing special. The second much the same. However on the third night as I began reciting the words on this utterly still, quiet night and the wind began to pick up. Normally wind has an ebb and flow but this wind was steady from it's start (when I began speaking) to it's end (the second it blew out my candle).

It spooked me ngl. Still I relit the candle and started again, and again the wind started and got violent enough to blow out the candle again. So I went back in the house and got a tall Pyrex (that glass cookware) pot. I put the pot over the candle and left it hanging a tiny bit off the side of the concrete slab the shed was build on so air could feed the candle but the wind wouldn't disturb it.

I started the ritual again. I swear the more I read the harder the wind blew, I probably got 80% done when the wind got strong enough that it felt like I was under an industrial strength fan. I had to almost yell to hear myself while bracing the book with both hands. The wind got so strong that the Pyrex pot and candle few off the concrete and rolled into the tree next to me. The pot shattered on impact and just like the other times the wind stopped the second the candle went out.

I was way too spooked to continue at that point, I bitched out and never completed the ritual. I also got yelled at the next day for breaking my mother's pot.

I used to loiter in this awesome bookshop that had all these old books and a comic book section in the back where they let you sit and read whatever you wanted for hours. They had a small occult section and I'd always browse it real quick when I was there. I had just begun my dark phase as a kid, listening to goth and metal and wearing all black that sorta thing so I just naturally thought the occult section was cool. I was going to buy some comics that day but saw this hot woman checking out witchcraft books so I went over there. She was an adult so there was no chance but she struck up a convo with me when she saw I was looking at a tarot set I think it was. She recommended the me book and when I flipped through it looked like some legit mystical stuff and I thought it was cool so I bought it instead of comics.

The story of the book has an addendum. I loaned it to a friend in middle school who actually finished the ritual and said he copied some pages before giving it back. Lost track of the kid after middle school. Cut to long time later and I start seeing the guy on tv and in movies. He wound up being a mildly successful character actor. Name is JD Williams, his biggest work was probably The Wire.

When I was 9 or 10 I saw a cross in the night sky where the moon would be. It was clear and persistent when I looked back at it a few times.

I was brought up Southern Baptist. I'm not a believer now. Strangest thing to experience.

one time there was a loud explosion right outside my window in the middle of the night. Woke up the whole house and my dad barged in my room to look out the window but nothing was there. Pretty freaky. Honestly it was probably my friends playing a prank on me or something.
