/s/puppy101 - Rules and Guidelines

Global Guidelines

  • No dominance theory or use of aversives

Recommending, instructing or detailing the use of dominance theory or aversives is prohibited, except in contexts where the user is explaining why these approaches are harmful and inappropriate. Methods covered under this rule include, but are not limited to: "balanced training", the use of pain, fear, startling, intimidation or physical punishment; shock/prong/pinch/spray/vibrate/ultrasonic tools; alpha rolls, scruffing, tongue presses, bops on the nose, cry it out, etc.

  • Be polite and on-topic

Posts or comments that contain inflammatory content or are clearly off-topic, debates purely for the sake of debating, trolling, or disrespectful will be removed. Be aware that vent posts about off leash dogs or relationship issues may be removed. Act in good faith and be civil in your content. Mods may use their discretion to temporarily or permanently ban without warning depending on the content. Zero tolerance for brigading.

  • No self-promotion or advertising

Promotional content to attract clients, gain exposure, or conduct market research is prohibited. This includes advertising or linking to your business, website, blog, products, professional services, social media, etc. Such content is welcome from unaffiliated individuals when offered in the spirit of support, rather than publicity. Buying, selling, adopting, or re-homing puppies through the sub is prohibited. Surveys require mod approval.

  • No photo posts

Posts must be submitted as text, not as a link to a photo. Please start your post with your concern or question and then add a link to a photo if you'd like. If you just want to post a cute photo of your puppy so we can ooh and aah, the place to do that is the Weekly Puppy101 Social thread.

  • No requests for financial assistance

Posts or comments asking for monetary assistance are prohibited. This includes links to gofundme pages, paypal, etc.

  • Do not ask for or give veterinary care/advice

Veterinary care/advice can only be provided by a veterinarian. Please call your vet if you are concerned about your puppy's health. r/AskVet is also available for non-urgent queries. Please do not give veterinary advice to others. This primarily includes diagnostic advice or specific treatment/medication information. Posts/comments will be removed subject to mod discretion.

  • Do not solicit private messages

Please do not solicit private messages. Rerouting requests for help to a private setting kills discussion and brings nothing of value to the community at large. It also prevents the mod team from screening for dangerous or harmful training techniques. If you have advice to give, please share it publicly so that others may benefit and so the mod team can see that you are acting in good faith.

  • No falsification of service dogs or support animals

Posts or comments promoting or endorsing misrepresentation of a pet dog as a service dog, service dog in training, or emotional support animal are prohibited. Promotion of scam registration sites for this purpose is also prohibited.

  • No illegal, unethical, or dangerous advice

Post or comments that endorse violence, abuse, theft, trespassing, or otherwise intentionally breaking/circumventing laws or regulations (regardless of intent) are prohibited. In addition, any unethical or dangerous advice will be removed per moderator discretion.

  • Moderators have Discretion

Mods reserve the right to remove content at their discretion. Not all contingencies can be accounted for in the rules. Content removal can be subjective, but mods are committed to making all decisions in good faith and for the overall benefit of the sub. All concerns regarding mod actions should be sent via message to mod team only. DO NOT PM MOD TEAM MEMBERS. Do not post/comment grievances regarding mod actions. Respect a locked comment - if a comment is locked, the discussion is over.
