Yes the writer of such cinematic disasterpieces as Wakanda Forever and Space Jam 2: A New Legacy is being tapped by Disney to fuck up The X-Files. This fresh abomination was first announced early last year: "‘The X-Files’ Creator Says Ryan Coogler Is Remaking the Mystery Series With a Diverse Cast" and has just been reconfirmed by Chris Carter: ‘X-Files’ Creator Chris Carter Gave Ryan Coogler His Blessing for Series Reboot: ‘He’s Got Some Good Ideas’.
For anyone unaware Coogler has to date made exclusively Afrocentric films, including Creed, Fruitvale Station and Judas and the Black Messiah. Expect any version of the X-File produced by Coogler to have a cast that looks less like The X-Files and more like Power Book II. And, being a Disney product, expect much identity politics mixed into the conspiracies and monsters of the week.
Personally I hope this never gets off the ground and if it does I hope it quickly fails big time. Otherwise expect the usual playbook; the show gets a marketing push, backlash ensues, Disney and the show's cast and crew call everyone bigots who hate Black people. The show premiers to mixed, mostly negative reviews. Valid criticisms are labeled as the ramblings of right wing trolls, even the original X-Files people get in on it (Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will be bashing fans on twitter no doubt). The X-Files fan base is divided and the X-Files (like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dr. Who before it) becomes another franchise millions of fans must pretend the new version of does not exist.
We live in the worst timeline.
