I've only been here a couple weeks (I'm not new, I've been here all summer), but it doesn't seem like pity votes are handed out too often around here. So it may be genuine.
I found this place through reddit (of course) but it was the first reddit-like that I thought, yeah, I wanna come back to this place. The biggest barrier to entry to people will be the chan but also drew me in so win some you lose some. I don't really ever visit 4chan anymore but we can remind people here that the chans weren't all /b/. There was a time you could have the best discussions on the niche boards.
Well, this place still has a way to go before long form comments are buried by shorter ones. In the time it takes to build up that userbase a few of us here could shape the culture toward bigger discussions.
(the irony of me writing a couple sentences in reply to your post is not lost on me)
Edit: also, seeing as this is now the fourth most upvoted post of all time here, I do think there is demand, even if some aren't vocal about it.
>Kbin is a bit better. They hide the server names for the communities giving at least a better presentation.
There are some things kbin does better but this is not one of them to me. I find it far more confusing to be browsing all and having no clue what the context of the submission is. Sometimes it's obvious but other times it's from the official community of a lemmy instance and I hate having to figure out where I have to click to find out.
Yes, but they're compatible. Kbin is PHP and lemmy is rust.
Edited to expand:
They both run on ActivityPub, the same technology Mastadon uses if you remember that. I didn't care about twitter so I never paid attention then but this reddit mess has made me actually want to learn about federation.
So in a way you can think of lemmy and kbin as different email clients that may have different UIs and some differences in functionality but they share the same open protocol so they *can* intercomunicate (though they could choose not to). You can follow a community started in a lemmy server from a kbin acct because they are federated together.
There's a bit more to it but idk if anyone actually cares. I'm just a nerd.
it's not botting if I'm manually asking Bing right?
I think reddit has that feature too? At least I thought I saw it described in one of the protest posts. Maybe that was part of turning the sub nsfw.
This game is still in my top 5.

I'm optimistic and I see you are too.

what up main bro?
I'm happy to have more serious discussions here as well as the less serious.

Do I mean nothing to you?
what's your favourite "____ type beat"?
Who voted FL? End your silence?
What did you end up doing?
Don't get used to it
I wanna make bread
There's like five people here total.
I almost had an option for that but then remembered Mastadon existed and figured I should add it.
>it's more free speech oriented
I wish it was possible infer what this means at all in this day.
There is a learning curve. If you are interested I can try to help. I actually find it kind of interesting. Feels like the old web in a way.
Regarding your last point that's not that different from reddit. /r/games vs /r/gaming for example.
You sure you know how to use them?
no

You'll always be my first love mainchan but we need more users.
This probably could have gone in reddithasfallen but no way I'm typing out a poll again.
Correct
